This was a vacation I was absolutely looking forward to. The ocean, the beaches, and some good camping- let me tell you, it did not disappoint!
We packed up and left our home in BC and headed south. The weather was terrific, and we planned our trip route to take us through some beautiful scenery via North Cascades Highway (State Route 20). Obviously, as Canadians, our first stop across the border was Walmart. We love the variety of foods in the States and needed some camping groceries anyway. Omak, Washington, has an impressive and giant Walmart that is only an hour across the border!
After we grabbed some things for our trip, we headed to the Washington coast, where we would be camping for the night at Grayland Beach State Park. On the drive there, we drove through the North Cascade mountains, which was gorgeous! We stopped to look at Ross Lake, which has a stunning aqua colour. At this point, the kids were over our stops and pictures, so we decided to start taking photos with their stuffed animals instead. I think we look great together!!
Once we arrived at our destination for the evening, we got a glimpse of the area. The beach was like nothing we had ever seen. We could drive on the beach right up to the water line. Thanks to our trusty 4×4-equipped truck, we even lent a hand to a stranded motorist battling the soft sands. Note to self: a capable truck is a must-have for beach driving adventures, haha!
Once we settled in our camp spot, we walked back down to the beach and hung out there for a few hours. Having fun playing in the sand, running, jumping, and being silly together. Due to the high winds and sandstorms, Jeff did not want to bring his camera down to the beach but was still able to capture some fantastic family photos via his phone.
The night ended like most nights: camping with the kids, a fire, some silly, spooky stories, and us going to bed before the girls, lol. Tomorrow, we will be up early and off to Oregon.
