After a crazy start to the summer, we were all looking for an adventure and some fun family time. We booked our hotel, The Stratosphere and then our flight to Las Vegas. We also booked a rental car for a week. Once we had that all sorted out, we devised ideas and things the kids wanted to see while we were there. This was the most challenging part, as Vegas has so many things to see and do! But we made a list, and the girls got to pick one main thing they wanted to see or do. Kay, who was 15 then, chose the Titanic experience, and I’m glad she did. It was amazing. It was interactive, and the amount of work put into the exhibition showed. Leah, who is 13, chose Circus Circus theme park. What an adventure and thrill. She convinced me to ride the roller coaster, and yes, it went upside down, but it was her first big coaster, and I’m happy I could share that experience with her. Jeff and I chose to visit the Hoover Dam, which was breathtaking. You don’t realize how big it is until you look down over the edge. Of course, this was in August, and it was 100+ degrees out, so we were all sweating to death while trying to enjoy the Dam. The girls loved that we could be in two different states and two different time zones, all while staying on the walking path over the Dam.
After finishing at the Dam, we returned to Vegas, stopping at Jimmy John’s for a sub. This is also a staple for us whenever we cross the border.
The Vegas part of the trip was ending, but of course, not without a trip to Fremont Street. It wasn’t our favorite part of the trip as it was crowded and smoky, with everyone smoking everything that could be smoked. But it was all part of the experience. Once back at our hotel, it was time to start packing, as our next adventure began in the morning!
