Our incredible road trip from Alberta to Montana and Washington began in Northern Alberta. We ventured to Kananaskis in Southern Alberta to meet friends and camp. We were treated to breathtaking views of the night skies and witnessed the stunning sight of the Milky Way. While exploring the area, we cycled around the trails near Upper Kananaskis Lake, surrounded by beautiful scenery and abundant wildlife. The upper and lower Kananaskis lakes mesmerized us with their captivating aqua blue-green waters and chilly temperatures.
After a few nights, we packed up. We made our way to Koocanusa Lake, Montana, a majestic lake that extends from British Columbia’s Kootenays into Montana’s Kootenai. Our stay at Koocanusa Resort & Marina offered us a perfect mix of relaxation and adventure. We spent our days swimming in the calm waters, exploring the campground on our bikes, and enjoying picnics by the lake. The stunning beauty of the sunny weather and the lake’s refreshing waters made our camping experience memorable.
Our journey continued to Sun Lakes State Park in Washington, making several pitstops. Our first stop was at Kootenai Falls, an awe-inspiring sight that left us spellbound. The falls also boasted a charming suspension bridge that provided incredible views of the surrounding area. Our next significant stop was the colossal Sun Lakes-Dry Falls State Park, where we marvelled at the remnants of a 400-foot-high waterfall that once spanned 3.5 miles. We then set up camp for the night. During dinner, we had the company of half a dozen deer. They grazed in the grasses at our campsite while we ate dinner. We set off for more adventure in the morning.
At Lake Lenore Caves Trail, we relished the solitude as we explored the shallow caves and captured some remarkable photographs. With its serene beauty, the trail led us to an exciting discovery—a hidden Geocache that added an element of adventure and surprise to our hike. As we journeyed north, we stopped at the Chief Joseph Dam lookout and headed to a camping spot in Kamloops, British Columbia, where we could fully enjoy the outdoors without feeling crowded.
Our 5-day stay at Paul Lake, a short drive from Kamloops, provided the perfect opportunity to unwind, recharge, and enjoy the great weather. It was an epic road trip filled with laughter, cherished memories, and countless photos. As we embarked on the 10-hour trek back home, we left with a profound sense of fulfillment, reflecting on the beauty of the places we visited and shared experiences. The anticipation of revisiting these unforgettable experiences filled us with joy and gratitude.
